There's nothing more important than a towel's material. Cotton's durability and absorbency make it the favored thread for terry towels. Loops in the towel do the dirty work. Towels with either more loops or thicker loops have higher absorbency and typically cost more, too. Combed cotton is considered a top-quality fiber for toweling because only the best grades of cotton can be combed.

Softness alone is not the only way to measure towel quality. The manufacturing process and the material affect towel absorbency. Although sheared towels are the most absorbent, they aren't necessarily the best dryers. Towels don't dry simply by absorbing moisture; the fiber loops also brush water off the body. The number of loops per square inch is the most important indicator of performance.

Wrap yourself in an oversized, absorbent bathroom towel instead of skimpy, thin towels that barely cover you. Egyptian cotton towels provide the most luxurious feel, which is reflected by its higher price. Choose either a large cotton bath towel (which will be about 30"x54") or a bath sheet (which is anywhere from 30"x60" to 36"x72"). For less than the price of a half-hour massage, you can wrap yourself in luxury again and again. For a real treat, use a towel warmer to have heated towels waiting!
